Question – My current license is not on Active subscription, can I still upgrade to a higher level?
Answer – No. Package upgrades can only be applied to licenses that are on an active subscription plan. In order to upgrade, you would first need to update your expired license. To see options on how to do this, visit our Expired License Updates or Trade In Licenses pages.
Question – Do I have to wait until my subscription renewal is due, in order to upgrade?
Answer – No. You can upgrade a license at any point in the renewal cycle. We will calculate the accurate cost for your subscription uplift, based on the number of months left on your subscription.
Question – Can I still share models with colleagues on a less powerful version?
Answer – Yes. As long as you are all working on the same year release, all models and drawings can be shared between SOLIDWORKS Standard, Professional & Premium. Certain higher functionality elements, like Simulation & Routing Assemblies, won’t be editable by lower-level users but the files can still be shared.
Question – Can I downgrade in the future?
Answer – Yes. You are able to downgrade the package to a lower version at the point the subscription renewal is due. At this point, we will simply charge you the lower product rate and you will lose access to the higher level features.
Question – I’m upgrading to get access to Simulation. Will I need a more powerful machine?
Answer – That depends on the hardware you currently have and what FEA you intend to perform. Typically, an average user of FEA will require more RAM & Processing power than a basic CAD user. To learn more about our hardware recommendations, click HERE
Question – I’m upgrading to get access to Visualize. Will I need a more powerful machine?
Answer – That depends on the hardware you currently have. We recommend a professional CAD Graphics Card for any SOLIDWORKS installation. These tend to be well suited for Visualize, as Visualize can leverage the GPU cores for rendering in addition to the CPU. This results in huge performance gains.
