SOLIDWORKS Certification – What’s Covered & How Do You Take Them?

Part 2

In this second of our 2 part blog series we look at what’s covered and how to take the SOLIDWORKS Certification exams. In Part 1 we looked at the benefits of the Certification program for employers and employees.

SOLIDWORKS Certification Program – Outline

Following on from our blog looking into the benefits of certification, here we’ll be looking in more detail at what’s covered and at how you actually take the exams.

Every customer that has a current subscription can take one exam every 6 months as part of their subscription benefits

If you’re looking to take the exams without a subscription, you can go here, pay the relevant fee and take the exam.

It’s worth noting that there are some trial exams on the site that will give you an idea of the types of questions you’ll encounter. Well worth a look.

CSWA

CSWP

CSWA – Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate

The CSWA Mechanical Design is the first step on your journey and basically covers all that you’ve learnt through the Essentials course. We’d recommend getting 6 months worth of experience under your belt before going for this.

There are other CSWA exams available (see diagram below), but most users will opt to go for the CSWP exams next.

CSWP – Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional

Next step are the CSWP exams. This is where things step up a level. You’ll really need to have taken the Advanced Part and Assembly courses for the first exam, CSWP Mechanical Design and then the respective training courses for each of the speciality subjects.

These exams aren’t easy and you’re going to need to be on your ‘A’ game. We’d recommend at least a year’s worth of experience before taking this step.

CSWE – Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert

We finally reach the CSWE level. This is the level which our tech support engineers are trained up to. They have to score 90% to pass, you have to score 80%. Needless to say, if the CSWP was a challenge, the CSWE is a true test of your mastery of SOLIDWORKS. 2 years of experience recommended. Not for the faint hearted.

In total, there are 16 Certifications available, outlined below.

How to take the exams

Firstly, you’ll need to get hold of your voucher(s). With each subscription service your company has, you can appply for one voucher between the 1st January and the 30th June and one voucher between 1st July and 31st December. The vouchers are valid for 180 days from the date of issue and it’s worth noting that they are not user dependant. Anyone from your organisation can use the voucher to take the exam(s).

Current Procedure for vouchers

At the moment, you cannot redeem the vouchers automatically, you need to follow the brief instructions below (the automatic system will be back online shortly):

The automatic voucher redemption system is currently disabled, but the team at SOLIDWORKS can still help you manually. Just email certification@solidworks.com with the information below to receive access to your free vouchers.

You’ll need:

  1. the email address you use for your certification account
  2. your company name
  3. the SOLIDWORKS serial number on subscription that you are using (or the 3DEXPERIENCE role that you are using)
  4. The exam(s) you would like to take this semester

Test Instructions

Once you’ve received your vouchers, you’re ready to go. All certification testing is done online. The process for taking a test is as follows:

Step 1: Download the Virtual Tester. You’ll need to go here to download theTesterPro software. Once downloaded, please go ahead and install the software in the location of your choice.

Step 2: You will be asked to create an account – our advice would be to use the same login credentials that you use for your 3DExperience ID.

Step 3: You’ll then be presented with this page. Select SOLIDWORKS.

Step 4: You’ll then go to this page.

Step 5: The option to use a voucher will be available to you in the box above the list of exams. Enter the voucher code, find the exam on the list that you have redeemed and hit the ‘start exam’ button when you’re ready to take it.

Step 6: When you’re done, access your account via the SOLIDWORKS Certification Center and print your certificates. You will need your 3DExperience ID to login to the Certification Center.
